Foil
highlighting is based on contrast and dimension
of both color and shape. To attain the best
contrast, determine the amount of light
and dark colors you want to produce. Construct
dimension through proper hair foil achitecture
and shape. Based on you and your client’s
shared intentions, decide what technique
works best.
Choose
from 3, 4, or 5-sectioned highlights:
- 3-section highlight = 2 side panels
in the front and 1 in the back
- 4-section highlight = 2 side panels
in the front and 2 in the back
- 5-section highlight = 1 crown along
a center part, 2 side panels in the front,
and 2 in the back
Once you choose a sectioning strategy,
then decide what direction to highlight
the hair, horizontal or vertical.
For a natural look, use horizontal highlights
across each section layer by layer. For
a chunkier effect, use vertical highlights
on an angle from the scalp downwards.
What ultimately determines a clients overall
look is the amount of foil used, the amount
of hair in each foil, and the space between
them. Slice. Weave. Chunk. The choice is
yours.
